This weapon was a stop-gap solution to provide infantry units with a weapon that could be used both as an anti-personnel weapon, as well as an anti-tank gun. It was introduced by Krupp in 1944.
The weapon was designed around a short-barreled 75mm gun installed onto the mounts for the old 37mm PaK 35/36, as well as captured anti-tank guns. It fired the same HE ammunition as the Light Infantry Gun 18, as well as HEAT ammunition against armored targets. It was normally towed behind half-track vehicles, such as the SdKfz 251/4.
