Jagdpanzer IV Tank Destroyer |
|
The Jagdpanzer IV was designed to improve the anti-tank capabilities that had been demonstrated by the StuG III and IV. It was based on the PzKfw chassis, but had significantly improved protection through the use of sloped armor and track skirts.
Early versions mounted the long-barreled 75mm L/48 gun, but later versions mounted the 75mm L/70 gun similar to that mounted by the PzKfw V Panther. Unfortunately, while they were well armed and armored, the Jagdpanzer IV suffered from a very limited gun traverse: only 10° each to the left and right. The Jagdpanzer IV was produced from 1943 to 1945. The vehicle on display is on loan from the Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung in Koblenz.
