The Sonderwagen II was developed to serve with German Border Police and other state police forces. It was a conventional 4x4 armored car with a welded steel hull that provided protection from small arms and shell fragments.
The vehicle had four-wheel drive and was powered by a 161hp V8 water-cooled gasoline engine. It was armed with either a 20mm cannon with a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun, or just the machine gun.
