The first museum in the world dedicated to the history of the World War II Russian T-34 tank has been opened near Moscow, Russia, according to Vladimir Maslov of the T-34 Tank History Museum.
The museum is located along the highway from Moscow to Dmitrov. The ground floor displays the background history of the T-34, with relics, documents and exhibits telling the story of the tank engineers and test operators. You can see how the T-34 went from initial blueprints to the world-changing combat vehicle described by Winston Churchill as one of the miracles of WW II. The ground floor also features an actual army tank simulator in which museum visitors can take a "test drive."
Outside, the museum features a number of armored vehicles that were derived from the T-34. There are two T-34s, plus an SU-100 self-propelled gun and the more modern Russian T-54A, T-55A, T-64AK, T-72, and T-80B. Next to the outdoor display is a memorial to the T-34's tank crews who died in service to their country.
The museum's web site isn't yet active, but when it is, we'll be sure to post it here. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact
