BLG-60M Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge (AVLB) |
|
The BLG-60M Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge (AVLB) was based on the Soviet T-55 tank chassis and was put into service in the former East German Army in the 1960s.
The T-55 turret was removed, and the vehicle is fitted with a scissors bridge, launched by an electro-hydraulic arm, that can cross gaps up to 18.5m across and support loads of roughly 50 tons. The time to launch or retrieve the bridge was about 5 minutes. A winch was also provided so the vehicle could pull the bridge when it could not be immediately retrieved, and replacement bridges were normally carried by heavy prime movers. The BLG-60M has a two-man crew. The vehicle on display is a gift from the 400th Armored Engineer Company at Hagenow.
